Statement
Through my sculpture I examine the fundamental questions of human existence. For me the body is at once a physical presence, a vulnerable structure, and the bearer of psychological and existential experience. Change, transience, time and identity appear in my work through a range of materials and sculptural processes, among them marble, andesite, bronze and plaster.
I often draw on mythological and biblical stories, reinterpreting them from a perspective of my own and at times calling their traditional iconography into question. Together with the formal language of classical sculpture, topoi and archetypal figures carry a timelessness in which the constancy of human nature becomes visible. The stories and their forms may change, but the questions they raise return again and again.
